Creating/Editing a Video in iMovie

A) Getting Started

1. Make sure there’s enough space on your ipad/iphone to record and save your presentation
2. Use the camera option on your ipad/iphone to record your initial videos
3. If you are using PowerPoint slides in your iMovie, you will need to save them as .PNG files in PowerPoint (select save "all slides" when asked).
4. Save these individual slides in your One Drive account.
5. On your iPad, open your One Drive account.
6. Select 1 slide at a time.
7. Click on the three dots at the top of the screen and download them to your iPad. 
8. Do this for all of your slides.

B) Creating a New Project

1. Click on the + icon to create a new project
2. Then select the Movie icon
3. This will open your Media library from which you can select the videos and photos you would like to include in your project
4. Select the videos and photos you would like to include
5. Click Create Movie at the bottom of the screen to go into edit mode
6. If using multiple video clips and/or photos, arrange the media in the order in which you would like them to occur in your iMovie by dragging items so that the first media item is on the bottom left of the screen.  The preview of your media will be at the top of your screen.
7. The vertical line at the bottom of the screen indicates where your project will start playing when you hit the play arrow.  Click and drag the media item to move it along the timeline.

C) Adding voice over to your project

1. Using the vertical line find the place in the video where you would like to add voice over.
2. Click on the microphone icon on the left under the preview screen.  A Ready to Record window will pop up.
3. When ready, click on the red Record icon.  You will receive a 3 second count down before recording will begin.
4. When finished, click on the Stop.  If satisfied, click on Accept.
5. You will see the duration of the voice over as a blue horizontal line under the video in the bottom half of the screen.

D) Trimming your Video

1. Click on the video to open up edit mode.  The border on either side of the video will turn yellow indicating that you can drag it to trim.
2. Play your video (using the play arrow) to locate areas you would like to cut.  Use the pause button to stop the video in the selected location.
3. The vertical line indicates where changes in the video will be made.
4. If you want to cut out content at the beginning of the video, drag the yellow bar on the left to your vertical line.
5. If you want to cut out content at the end of the video, drag the yellow bar on the right to your vertical line.
6. Other editing options are located on the menu at the bottom of the screen.  They include splitting the video clip, detaching the audio from the visual, duplicating your media, adding titles and adding filters.

E) Editing your Audio

1. Click on the blue horizontal line to open up edit mode for the audio.  The border on either side of the audio content will turn yellow indicating that you can drag it to trim.
2. Play your video (using the play arrow) to locate areas you would like to cut.  Use the pause button to stop the video in the selected location.
3. The vertical line indicates where changes in the video will be made.
4. If you want to cut out content at the beginning of the audio, drag the yellow bar on the left to your vertical line.
5. If you want to cut out content at the end of the audio, drag the yellow bar on the right to your vertical line.

Note:  When editing, if you are not happy with a change you made, there is an undo button at the top right side of the editing screen (the u-shaped arrow), so trying different methods of editing is safe!  The clips in the project are copies of your original video so the original is untouched.

F) Saving your iMovie

1. When you are satisfied with your project, click Done. 
2. You can rename your project by clicking on My Movie.
3. The upload button is at the bottom of the screen (box with up arrow).
4. Select Save Video.
5. Choose the export size you want.
6. Your iMovie is now located in your Photo Library.

D) Upload video to YuJa (for faculty)

1. Faculty members can Upload Videos to your YuJa Account for Linking in your Brightspace Course

E) Using this video as part of an assignment, announcement, etc. in Brightspace (for faculty)

1. Open your course in Brightspace.
2. In the Course Activities section of the NavBar, select Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes, etc. OR under Course Tools, select Announcements and create a new item.

3. Click on the "Insert Stuff" button located in the text editor in Announcements, Discussions, Assignments, and more, then choosing "YuJa Media Chooser - BUC" from the list of options. Find and select the video to Insert

   

4. You will then have to click on the Submit button at the bottom of the screen.
