Using PowerPoint to Create a Screen Capture Video

A) Getting Started 

  1. Make sure there’s enough disk space on your computer to record and save your presentation 

  1. Ensure that you have a microphone for your recording 

 

B) Recording from your computer 

 Open the PowerPoint slides you will use to create the video 

  1. In the INSERT tab, select Screen Recording 

  1. Click Select Area

  1. You will see the cross-haired cursor Image of crosshair icon. .  Click and drag to select the area of the screen you want to record. Anything displayed within the selected area of the screen will be recorded (including any other documents, applications, or websites).

  2. Click on Record Pointer to turn off the cursor if you do not want it to be visible in the video. 

  3. Click Record

  1. To control your recording, you have Pause (temporarily stop the recording), Record (resume recording) or Stop (end recording) options. 

Note:  If the Record options window disappears, pull it back down from the top of the screen.

C) To trim your video 

  1. Right click on the video frame, and select Trim

 Icons for Style, Trim, Start. 

  1. In the Trim Video, click on Play to determine where you want to trim your video. 

  1. When you get to the point where you want to trim your video, click Pause

  1. To trim from the start of the clip, click on the starting point.  You will get a two headed arrow.  You can now drag the arrow to the point where you would like the video to start. 

  1. To trim from the end of the clip, click on the ending point.  You will get a two headed arrow.  You can now drag the arrow to the point where you would like the video to end. 

  1. Click OK

  1. When you are finished recording, save your presentation as a separate file on your computer, right-click on the created media on the PPT slide and select Save Media as. In the Save Media As dialog box, specify a file name and folder location, then click  Save

D) Upload video to YuJa

Any voice-over-PowerPoint should be exported as a video and uploaded to YuJa. This allows the video to be streamed from any device.

  1. From within Brightspace, you can upload the saved video either through the Content area of the Navbar (Existing Activities>YuJa Media Chooser) or by using the "Insert Stuff" button anywhere in Brightspace that allows you to edit content (Assignments, Announcements, etc.).  For more detailed directions, visit Using the Media Chooser for D2L at YuJa's support site.
  1. Or you can log into YuJa directly and use the Upload button add the video to your account.
