Forward your Student Gmail to your personal email account

Important Notice Regarding Campus Email

Buffalo State is transitioning student email services from Gmail to Outlook email as part of a Microsoft 365 upgrade. This legacy article is intended for students accepted BEFORE Fall 2023 who still have Google accounts. Students accepted for the Fall 2023 semester (or later) will not receive Google accounts, and will access email through Outlook via Microsoft 365 using their Network credentials.

Students who currently have Google accounts will be moved to Outlook on Monday, May 22nd, 2023. These students will keep access to their Google account for one full year after the switch (until the summer of 2024), but new email will only be accessible from Outlook

For more information on this project, please visit the Student Email Project page and the Frequently Asked Questions page.

If you already have a personal email account, you can forward your student mail to your personal account so that your mail is in one place.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. From your Student Gmail account, click the Gear icon (options) in the top right corner, choose Settings and open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.

Enable Multiple Inboxes (Gmail Users Only)

If you have a personal Gmail account, now that you've setup forwarding to your personal address, you might want to enable Multiple Inboxes. This allows you to display both of your Inboxes (personal and student) within Gmail.

1. Click the gear icon in the top right corner, choose Mail settings and open the Labs tab.

2. Scroll down to Multiple Inboxes and select Enable.

3. Scroll down to the bottom and click Save Changes.

4. Click the gear icon again, choose Mail settings and open the Multiple Inboxes tab.

5. In the Pane 0: field in the Search query column, enter the term Label: followed by the label you created above (e.g. Label: Student Gmail).
