Set up or reset your network password

This article explains how to set up or reset your network password. We also have an account orientation video available at this link. Your network account username/password is the general sign-in for most campus systems including:

Bengal Success Portal Parking Permit
Blackboard Qualtrics (Surveys)
Campus Network (Wired and Wireless) Scholarships Portal (CAPS)
Degree Works Weigel Health Portal (Symptom Tracker)
Library (Online Databases/My Library)  
Please Note If you know your Network password and just want to change it, you can do so by visiting the Change Password Utility. If you ever receive a message that your password has "expired," you can use this page to update it.

Step 1: Login to Banner

The first step is to login to your Banner account:

  1. Visit the student Banner page.
  2. Click the Log in to Banner link.
  3. Enter your User ID and PIN, and click Login.
Please Note: If you have trouble accessing Banner, try resetting your PIN. Simply enter your Banner ID and then click Forgot PIN?. After answering your security question you can create a new PIN.

Step 2: Reset your network password

The next step is to create a new password for your network account:

  1. Click the Personal Information link.
  2. Click the Setup or Reset Student Network Password link.
  3. In the New Password box, enter a new password/passphrase (at least 15 characters long).
  4. In the Confirm New Password box, retype your new password/passphrase, click Submit.
  5. You should see a message confirming that your password has been reset.

Change password and click submit

Important! Your new password must be at least 15 characters long, and is case sensitive. Please allow 15 minutes for your password to synchronize before proceeding to step 3 (or attempting to access the systems listed at the top of this page). 

Step 3: Set up multi-factor authentication

Be sure to wait 15 minutes after performing step 2. Then, complete this final step to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) for your account:

  1. Go to https://aka.ms/mfasetup 
  2. Enter your Buffalo State username followed by @buffalostate.edu and click Next.  
  3. Follow the prompts to add your verification methods (e.g., cellphone, home phone, authenticator app).
