Activate your Buffalo State account

Welcome to Buffalo State! Before you can sign-in to the systems listed below, you will need to follow the steps in this article to activate your account and setup multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Step 1: Visit the Self-Service Password Reset site

The first step is to visit the Self-Service Password Reset page and enter how your Buffalo State e-mail address.

  1. Go to: passwordreset.buffalostate.edu
  2. Enter your Buffalo State email address, the characters in the captcha and click Next.

Enter your username followed by @buffalostate.edu

Note: You should have received your Buffalo State email address when you got accepted. If you don't know what this address is, you can contact the IT Help Desk at 716-878-4357 or open a Login Assistance ticket.

Step 2: Choose a contact method

Choose one of the available contact methods to complete the verification.  

  1. Select Email my alternate email, Text my mobile phone or Call my mobile phone. Then, enter the requested information (e.g. email address, phone number) and click Next.

  1. Enter the verification code you received and click Next.

Step 3: Create a 15+ character password

When the choose a new password screen appears, enter a 15+ character password or passphrase and click Finished when done.

Step 4: Set up multi-factor authentication

The final step is to set up multi-factor authentication for your account. MFA is an extra "check-in" used to verify sign-in attempts. This helps protect you from phishing scams. Follow the link below for instructions.
