At-home access to Microsoft 365 Office apps

Install Microsoft Office at home! Current Students, Faculty, and Staff can install the full version of Microsoft 365 (Office) on up to five personal devices.

This is the package of applications installed on campus devices like Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word. You can follow the steps below from any compatible Windows PC or Mac at home.

Download/Install the Office app package via computer

  1. Sign into your Buffalo State Outlook E-Mail account in a web-browser.

  2. Open the upper-left App launcher menu in Outlook, and choose the More apps icon.
While signed into Outlook email, the "Apps" menu has a "More Apps" option to bring up the installation page

  3. From the Apps page opened in the previous step, choose Install Apps in the upper-right, then choose Microsoft 365 apps from the pulldown. This should download the installation file to your computer's default Downloads folder. This file can then be opened to begin the installation.
On the "Apps" page, the "Install apps" pulldown will have an option for the Microsoft 365 apps

Uncheck the "Allow my organization to manage my device" option

  1. Once Office is installed, the first time you open an Office app such as Word you'll be prompted to sign-in. Complete the sign-in using your Buffalo State email address and your Network password.

  2. When the "Stay signed in to all your apps" screen appears, make sure you uncheck the option to "Allow my organization to manage my device" and then click the "No, sign in to this app only" link (instead of the "OK" button). If you leave this box checked and click "OK," you're computer will be enrolled in Buffalo State's Azure/Intune environment.

Uncheck the Allow my organization to manage my device box

  1. Because you are clicking the "No, sign in to this app only" link instead of "OK," you will need to repeat these steps the first time you open each Office app. For example, if you mainly use Word and Excel, you will need to do these steps twice (once for each app).
Please Note: If you mistakenly leave the "Allow my organization to manage my device" box checked and click "OK," you can remove your device from Buffalo State's Azure/Intune environment by going to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school > selecting your Buffalo State account and choosing the Disconnect option.
