Audio Output Selection on Apple Computers

If your Apple computer is connected to an external AV device (ex. laptop connections in a classroom) you may need to initially set the audio output in order for sound to be heard through the AV system.

Selecting the Appropriate Audio Output

  1. Open the Sound preferences in Apple Menu > System Settings > Sound. (This can be done quickly by using the hotkey combination of Option+Volume Up or Option+Volume Down.)

  2. In the Sound menu, there will be a small inset menu for Output/Input. Ensure that Output is selected. This will list all available audio output devices.

  3. Select "Crestron" as the audio output source. (If you are in an Extron room, it will say "Extron" instead.) Audio will now come through the AV system.

This setting should be "remembered" by your device for future use. It may need to be set again if your login changes or your operating system is upgraded, or if you use a new physical output (for example, you may need to set this for both your USB-C and HDMI outputs if so equipped).
