Service Description
The Intent to Teach Online or Hybrid Course service supports faculty who plan to offer a course in an online or hybrid modality for the first time. This service initiates the approval process required by Buffalo State's DOPS IV:07:04 Online and Hybrid Course Offering Policy and helps ensure that courses are developed using established online teaching and course design standards.
Through this service, faculty document their intent to offer a course online or hybrid, provide a rationale explaining how the modality will benefit student learning, and obtain the required departmental and dean-level approvals. The service also verifies online teaching credentials and connects faculty with Instructional Design & Distance Learning resources for professional development, course design services, and the course design review (OSCQR) process.
Faculty should use this service to:
- Notify Academic Affairs of their intent to teach a course online or hybrid for its inaugural offering.
- Submit the required rationale describing how online or hybrid delivery will enhance the student learning experience.
- Document online teaching credentials.
- Identify next steps for course development, including collaboration with Instructional Design & Distance Learning.
- Begin the Online Course Design and Development process or plan for a Course Design Review (OSCQR), as required.
This service should be submitted well in advance of the semester in which the course will be offered to allow sufficient time for course development, review, and scheduling approval in accordance with Buffalo State policies. Faculty who do not yet have online credentials should notify Academic Affairs of their intent to teach a new course online at least one year prior to the inaugural course offering.
