Transfer your school Gmail and Drive files to another Google account

Google Takeout Transfer is a tool developed by Google that allows you to transfer email and Drive files to from one Google account to another. For example, this tool can be used to transfer email and Drive files from your legacy  campus email account (i.e., your address ending in mail.buffalostate.edu) to a personal Gmail account. This article explains how to get started with the transfer.

Important: Google provides this service "as is" and without administrative support. The IT Help Desk has no ability to diagnose or assist with problems you might encounter.

 

  1. Sign-in to your school Gmail account, click on your profile picture and select Manage your Google Account.
  2. Click the Start Transfer button.

  1. Enter the email address of the personal Gmail account that you want to copy the content to and click Send Code.

  1. Using a different web browser or device, check your personal account and look for the Verify your account email from Google. Open this email and click Get confirmation code

  1. Go back to your school account and enter the confirmation code into the verification box.

  1. On the Select the content to copy and transfer screen, choose Drive and/or Gmail selected and click Start Transfer

You’re all set! You should see a message that the transfer is "in progress" and that "It may take up to a week for the transfer to complete." You’ll receive an email from Google when the transfer is complete.
