Schedule online meetings with Microsoft Teams

Faculty and staff can schedule online meetings using Microsoft Teams. To join the Teams meeting, all meeting participants must have a computer with a microphone, web cam and an Internet connection. Currently, there is no option to call-in by phone to a Teams meeting. Please refer your students to the Student Guide to Microsoft Teams Meetings

Schedule a Teams meeting from Outlook on the web

There are several ways to schedule Teams meetings. The steps below explain how to schedule a meeting from Outlook on the web:

  1. Sign-in to your faculty/staff e-mail account at https://outlook.office365.com/owa/buffalostate.edu
  2. Click the calendar button on the bottom left to switch to Calendar view.

  1. Click New event and fill out the meeting details. You can invite students by adding addresses in the Invite attendees field. Alternatively, you can leave this field blank and then just copy/paste the meeting link to share with your students via Blackboard.
  1. To make it an online meeting, select Teams meeting from the Add online meeting drop-down in the Search for a room or location section.

  1. Click Save when done (or Send if you are inviting students).

Optional: Share the meeting link via Brightspace

If you'd prefer to share the meeting link with your students via Brightspace, follow these steps:

  1. Open the calendar event that you created above.
  2. Right-click on the Join Microsoft Teams Meeting link and choose Copy link.

  1. You can now paste the link into one of your content areas in Brightspace, into your syllabus or into a message to your students.

Join the meeting

The steps below explain how to join via the calendar invite/appointment:

  1. Open the calendar event that you created above and click the Join Teams meeting button or link.

  1. You will be prompted to choose one of the following options when joining the meeting. Choose Continue on this browser.

  1. When prompted, click Allow to allow Teams to use your computer's microphone and camera.

  1. Enter your name, select whether you want to have your microphone and camera on, and click Join now.

  1. As attendees join the meeting, you will receive a message that they are waiting in the lobby. Click Admit to let them in.
