Enroll a Linux device on the secure wireless network

Follow the steps below to enroll a Linux laptop/computer on the secure wireless network. An active Internet connection is required to complete these steps. Before proceeding, temporarily connect and sign-in to the BengalOpen16 wireless network. 

Please Note: These instructions are based on Ubuntu and Manjaro KDE. The steps in this guide may be slightly different if you are running a different Linux distribution software.

  1. Temporarily connect and sign-in to the BengalOpen16 wireless network.
  2. The Secure Wireless page should open in a new browser tab. If not, open a new tab and go to: https://securewifi.buffalostate.edu
  3. Click the Enroll Your Device button.
  4. When the Welcome to Buffalo State Secure WiFi screen appears, click Continue.
  5. Click the Normal Login button.
  6. Enter your Buffalo State username and password, click Continue.
  7. On the bottom of the page, click on "Show all operating systems".

  8. Scroll down and click on "Other Operating Systems".
  9. Scroll down further and Download the first two files under "Step 1: Install The CA Certificate (Click to install SUNY Buffalo State Root CA I)" and "Step 2: Install Your Certificate (Click to install your certificate)". One of them will have a several numbers and letters after the "CA" in the name and the other one will contain your username at the end. They should save onto your computer in your "Downloads" folder by default.
  10. Open your network settings for Linux and click the "+" Button to add a new network.
  11. Click Connect to a Hidden Network.
  12. Type in Bengal for the Network Name (SSID).
  13. Change the WiFi Security to WPA2 & WPA2 Enterprise to reveal more options.
  14. This is a template of how your network settings should be setup:

Network name: Bengal
Wi-Fi security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
Authentication: TLS
Identity: CTB-FSN-testuser01 [SAME FILE NAME AS YOUR .p12 FILE]
Domain: xpc01p.buffalostate.edu
CA certificate: CA-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.cer [SELECT THE LONGER FILE NAME DOWNLOADED IN STEP 2]
User certificate: CTB-FSN-testuser01.p12
User private key: CTB-FSN-testuser01.p12
User key password: [ENTER YOUR 15+ CHARACTER BUFFALO STATE NETWORK PASSWORD] ~ Optional (will prompt for authentication)
 

You should now be able to hit Connect at the bottom right of the screen and gain access to Bengal!
