How to navigate to other Banner pages

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. You can navigate to other Banner pages using the four-square menu. Just click on the icon in the top left corner and select a page from the drop down.

How to check registration status

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. From the landing page, select Registration, then Prepare for Registration.
  3. View your registration status under the first tab. 

    The registration status panel should display any available registration time slots

How to look up your advisor and holds

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. From the landing page, select Student Profile. Your advisor information will displayed at the bottom of the page.
  3. Any current holds will display near the top of the page.

How to register for classes

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. From the landing page, select Registration, then Register for Classes.
    "register for classes" appears as an option under the "what would you like to do" header
     
  3. Select a term from the Terms Open for Registration drop-down.
    The "Select a Term" header appears over the "Terms Open for Registration" pulldown menu
     
  4. There are three tabs available on the next page: Find Classes, Enter CRNs, and Schedule and Options. If you know CRNs, select the Enter CRNs tab and enter them one at a time.

  1. If you need to search for classes, use the Find Classes tab. On the search result page, pick a class and click Add.

The "Find Classes" tab also allows you to Add a class

  1. Reach out to the instructor if you need to receive an override to register.

How to add/drop to waitlist

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. From the landing page, select Registration, then Register for Classes.
  3. Select a term, then click on Enter CRN:

"Enter CRNs" can be used to manually type in the four-digit code for a specific class/section
 

  1. When you will see Pending in the Status field, you must then use the Action drop down menu and select Waitlisted. Click Submit.
    The "Action" pulldown menu appears at the far-right end of each class listing
     
  2. Now the Status column should display Waitlisted:
    The "Status" field should reflect the option chosen from the "Action" pulldown after being submitted
     
  3. If you decide you no longer want to be on the waitlist, go to the Action drop down menu and select Drop Web. Click Submit.
    Choosing the "Drop Web"pulldown option is how you remove yourself from a waitlist or class. You must also click "Submit" to enact the change.
     
  4. Always go to your schedule to double-check for accuracy after you take any action.

How to withdraw from a course

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. From the landing page, select Registration, then Register for Classes.
    Under the "Registration" header and the "What would you like to do?" title, you can find the "Register for Classes" link
     
  3. Click on the Schedule and Options tab. Expand the Summary panel to view your current registrations. 
    The "Schedule and Options" tab is the third, rightmost tab in the "Register for Classes" section, and each tab will change to blue when selected.
     
  4. Look at the line for the class you want to submit an Online Withdrawal from Course for. The original status should be Registered. Click in the Action field and select Withdrawal, then click Submit.
    The "Action" field for the class you're looking at is located at the far-right of its information line.
     
  5. Review to be sure the class status has changed to Withdrawn:
    After choosing Submit for this change, "Withdrawn" will appear in a green highlight.
     
  6. You should now see the Date of the online withdrawal when viewing the course:
    In the "Register for Classes" section, the "Schedule and Options" tab to confirm that your withdrawal has been recorded is the third, far-right option. This tab will change to blue when selecting..
     
  7. If you experience an issue with being able to scroll to the Action field using a phone, you will want to switch to a desktop/laptop to complete this task.

How to look up your schedule

  1. From the landing page, select Registration, then View Registration Information.
    In the "Registration" section, and under the "What would you like to do?" header, you can choose the View Registration" link
     
  2. Under View Registration Information, you can see two separate panels. The top panel displays your classes for a selected term. The bottom panel displays your weekly schedule. You can print both panels by clicking on the print icon at the top of the page.
    Each of the two areas below "View Registration Information" has two tabs, which turn blue to highlight the currently selected tab.

How to resolve a "Pending" message

You may see this "Pending" status message for many registration-related activities (e.g., adding a class, dropping a class, or adding to a waitlist). The system is waiting for the you to click the Submit button in the lower right-hand corner.

If you do not see this Submit button, make sure you scroll down and look for this button. If you don't see one, try it from a desktop computer (rather than a mobile device) or a desktop with a larger screen. Any questions or assistance needed with screen resolution settings, contact the IT Help Desk.

How to apply for Pass/Fail

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. Use the four-square menu to navigate to Banner Student Registration Pass/Fail Request:
    "Pass/Fail Request" appears near the bottom of the Registration section of the "four square" menu.
     
  3. Follow the instructions on the form. If you have any questions, please reach out to the Registrar's Office.

How to Verify Your:

Pass/Fail Application

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. From the landing page, select Registration, then View Registration Information.
  3. Verify the Grade Mode and Date fields:
    Grade Mode and Date appear among the columns for each class shown for the selected Term.
     

Withdrawal from a Course

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. From the landing page, select Registration, then View Registration Information.
  3. Verify the Status and Date fields:
    Status and Date appear among the columns for each class shown for the selected Term.
     

Registration for a Course

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. From the landing page, select Registration, then View Registration Information.
  3. Verify the Status and Date fields:

Status and Date appear among the columns for each class shown for the selected Term.

How to view housing information

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. From the landing page, select MyHousing in the Policies & Other Resources section.
Note: If you receive a screen that says "You are not authorized to access this program," you must contact the Residence Life Office.

How to view/pay your bill

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. From the landing page, select View and Pay Bill in the Financial Information section.  
Note: You must be registered for classes before you can pay your tuition bill and fees. If you are registered but receive a screen prompting you to "Register your account" when you click the View and Pay Bill link, please fill out a Banner Issue ticket.

How to add a phone number

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. Use the four-square menu to navigate to Banner > Personal Information > Personal Information/Directory Profile.
  3. In the Phone Number section, click the Add New button.

  1. After entering the phone number, click the Add button at the bottom to save.
  2. If you have existing phone numbers, you can update this information by clicking the edit button (pencil icon) under the number. 
Important! Adding a phone number in Banner has no bearing on the verification methods used for multi-factor authentication. If you need to update your verification methods for multi-factor authentication, you will need to follow these steps.

How to add an emergency contact

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. Use the four-square menu to navigate to Banner > Personal Information > Personal Information/Directory Profile.
  3. In the Emergency Contact section, click the Add New button. 

"Add New" appears in the upper-right area of this section in blue text

  1. After adding the information for the emergency contact, click the Add button at the bottom to save.
  2. If you have existing contacts, you can update their information by clicking the edit button (pencil icon) under the contact.

How to apply to graduate

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. Use the four-square menu to navigate to Banner > Student > Student Records > Apply to Graduate.

How to view unofficial transcripts

  1. Login to Self-Service Banner using your Buffalo State username and password.
  2. Use the four-square menu to navigate to Banner > Student > Student Records  > Academic Transcripts (Unofficial).
Note: Unofficial transcripts will not be available during open grading windows (i.e., when grading takes place at the end of each semester).
