Faculty, staff and students are required to use multi-factor authentication (MFA) to access campus and SUNY websites. This extra "check-in" for unrecognized login attempts helps protect you from phishing scams. You can always set up (and update) your MFA options using the steps shown below.
Set up your verification options
- Go to https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo , enter your Buffalo State email address and click Next.
- You will be redirected to the Buffalo State sign-in page. Enter your Network password and click Sign In. If you are prompted to Stay signed in? click No.
- Click Next on the More information required screen.
- You will be prompted to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app which we strongly recommend. To set up the app, click Next. If you would prefer to use a different verification method (e.g. text or call to your cell phone), click I want to set up a different method.
- Follow the prompts to complete the enrollment process. The prompts you see will be slightly different depending which option you selected in step 5. If you decided to skip setting up the Microsoft Authenticator app, you can set it up at any point by following the steps in this article.
Once you've finished adding your MFA device(s) for your campus account, expect each new or unrecognized login to have this extra "check in" after entering your password. Depending on the option you've chosen, this can be a simple prompt or a single-use code. For more information, see
