Creating High Resolution PowerPoint Presentations

By default, PowerPoint will create 72dpi (slightly lower than HD resolution) slide shows. For most purposes, this is adequate.

However, if you are going to make a movie file from your PowerPoint Presentation or export individual slides, you may wish to create higher-resolution exports.

Please note that by increasing the resolution of your presentation, you will also increase the file size. If you have a large amount of high-resolution images, saving your presentation at a higher resolution could create significantly larger files which may be harder to manage.

How to Increase PowerPoint Presentation Resolution

This setting is applied "per presentation," meaning it does not persist on your system when creating new presentations.

1. Open your PowerPoint Presentation (or create a new one)
2. In the upper menu bar, select the "Design" tab.
3. In the upper-right area of the screen, in the Design tab, click "Slide Size." In that dropdown menu, select "Custom Slide Size." 
4. A small window for Slide Size will pop up. On the left side, there are fields for width and height. You can enter a size in inches (i.e. "20in") or pixels (i.e. "1920px"). Enter your preferred size. (See below for size/aspect recommendations)
