Brightspace​ Fundamentals Workshop #4B​ Discussions – Gradable Activities​

Workshop Description:

This workshop is designed for instructors new to Brightspace. The Brightspace environment is designed to handle a variety of instructor needs and assessment formats. Understanding the various formats and how they work will help your course run more smoothly for both yourself and your students. This workshop is suitable for instructors teaching in any modality: face-to-face, hybrid, or online. 
 
This is the fourth workshop in the fundamental series: Navigation & Interface; Communication Tools; Authoring/Publishing Content; and Gradebook. 
 
Prerequisite: Brightspace Navigation & Interface, equivalent training from SUNY or experience using the Brightspace LMS. 

Please have some course discussion content ready for this hands-on session: discussion directions (.doc or .pdf), presentations (.ppt), or images (.png, .jpeg). 


Please be sure you are able to login to your Brightspace account before attending this workshop. You can login using the Network Login option with your Buffalo State username and password. If you are experiencing login issues, please submit a ticket via the IT Portal.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define common discussion terminology such as discussion forum, topic, and thread/ reply 

  • Identify the options available to instructors when creating discussion topics 

  • List the steps necessary to create an effective graded discussion and a link to it  from within a content module 

  • Name the options available to instructors when moderating a discussion 

  • Find resources on the Brightspace Community and within the SUNY DLE Brightspace Fundamentals Asynchronous Modules ​

  • Earning SUNY DLE Brightspace Fundamentals Certificate ​
