Learning Management System (Blackboard) - Restore

Blackboard Learn is no longer available to Buffalo State Faculty/Staff/Students as the campus has made a full migration to D2L Brightspace as of April 10, 2023.

Service Description

Course content and student data from Blackboard Learn have been retained based on state and SUNY Record Retention Policy. Requests can be made to restore course content OR student data from a past Blackboard Learn course.

Standard Features

Course Restored:

  • Courses can be restored and requested by the faculty member who was the official instructor of record. Restoring a course uploads the archive package of course content into Brightspace. While all course data will be within the restored archive, course organization and layout should be adjusted using Brightpspace functionality.

Student Data:

  • Student data from Blackboard Learn cannot be restored in Brightspace. Student grades, papers, and assignment submissions can be requested by the students or by the faculty member who was the instructor of record of the course for which the data is being requested. Deans and Associate Deans may request student data on behalf of a faculty member if the faculty member is unable to do so. This data is being stored in K16-Scaffold and can be accessed by Instructional Design & Distance Learning Staff, Copies of the data requested will be sent to the requestor.

Roles and Responsibilities

Requester must be the instructor of record listed in Banner or a departmental head to request a course restoration.

Service Level Agreement

Response and resolution times are based on operational hours (Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM).

Service Level 2 - Normal  
Response Time 1 business day
Resolution Time 3 business days
Please Note: Response Time is measured from ticket submission date/time until the ticket is moved to an 'In Process' status. Resolution Time is measured from ticket submission date/time until the ticket is completed/resolved.

Service Pricing

There are no costs associated with this service for the restoration of a course archived from a past semester. Courses are scheduled to be archived in March and September.

Please Note: There may be a fee incurred by the department to restore a current semester course from an archive.
