Description
Over the next several months, Information Technology Services will conduct an appraisal of existing campus computers.
- A representative from the department (e.g. secretary) will be contacted to schedule a date for the appraisal.
- On the date of the appraisal, a representative from IT will conduct a physical appraisal of the computers in the department.
- The physical appraisal will be reviewed/analyzed to determine which computers need to be replaced or upgraded.
Purpose
IT Services must ensure that campus computers are on the latest operating system for the following reasons:
- To maintain a consistent, stable and secure computing environment for users on campus.
- To ensure all campus computers are protected against the latest security/malware threats.
- To ensure all campus computers are in compliance with the support schedules dictated by Microsoft and Apple.
Impact
Depending on the age of the computer and operating system version, some individuals within the department may need to have their computer replaced or upgraded to the latest OS version. Prior to receiving a replacement device or upgrade, we highly recommend backing up your important files to your network drive, OneDrive or an external drive.
