Setting the External Grade Column in Blackboard Learn

By default, the Total column in your Grade Center is designated as the External Grade column. It is marked by a green check mark to the left of the column name.

At Buffalo State, the External Grade column is automatically used to send grades from Blackboard to the Bengal Success Portal. Instructors are able to designate the appropriate column as the External Grade column, so external technology can receive appropriate Grade Center data.

Designate a Different External Grade Column

  1. In your Blackboard course, access the Control Panel.
  2. Click on Grade Center.
  3. Select Full Grade Center.
  4. Locate the column you wish to designate as the External Grade column.
  5. Click on the arrow next to the column name.
  6. Select Set as External Grade.

  7. The External Grade icon (green checkmark) will appear in the column header you chose. If you copy a course, the external grade column you chose remains as the external grade column.

Note: Changes made in the Blackboard Grade Center will be reflected in the Bengal Success Portal within 24 hours. If the external Grade Center column is hidden completely in the Grade Center results will still be visible in the Bengal Success Portal.
