Configure Remote Desktop on your home Mac

Please Note: Before using Remote Desktop, you must open a ticket requesting access AND complete a short training session (either in-person or online).

If you have requested Remote Computer Access and have completed training (in-person or online), follow these steps on your home Mac to configure your Remote Desktop connection:

  1. Download the latest version of Microsoft Remote Desktop from the App Store.
  2. Open Microsoft Remote Desktop when the installation completes.
  3. Click Not now at the Help us make your experience better? prompt.
  4. Click Continue at the We need to request access to your microphone and camera prompt. Click OK on the next two screens.
  5. Click Add PC to configure the Remote Desktop connection to your campus device.
  6. Enter the device name of your PC and then click inside the User account field and select Add User Account.

  1. When the Add User Account window opens enter bsclogon\ followed by your Buffalo State username and password in the appropriate fields. Give your account a friendly name and click Add.

  1. Next, click inside the Gateway field and select Add Gateway. Enter bscrd.buffalostate.edu in the Gateway name field. Give the gateway a friendly name and click Add.

COVID-19 Update: Students in classes that are using Remote Desktop during the Spring 2020 semester should use the address RDPGW.BUFFALOSTATE.EDU for the gateway server name instead of the address pictured above (BSCRD.BUFFALOSTATE.EDU).

 

  1. Your screen should now look similar to the screenshot below. Be sure to give your connection a friendly name like Remote to Work and then click Add to save the connection.

  1. To remote into your campus PC, double-click on Remote to Work.Click Continue at the "certificate couldn't be verified" screen. You should now be signed into your work PC.

  1. When you are ready to disconnect from your work PC, click Microsoft Remote Desktop from the menu bar and select Quit Remote Desktop.
